HOW WE WORK

What happens when you call us out

Our City & Guilds qualified, F-gas certified engineers bring [X] years of combined experience. Here's how we put things right.

  1. 1

    We diagnose the fault

We find the root cause first, checking the interconnecting pipework, cables and power supply, and give you a report on what we find. This is especially useful if we didn't install your system.

  2. 2

    We explain the repair

Once we've pinpointed the problem, we tell you exactly what's needed, give you a clear estimate and order any parts.

  3. 3

    We keep you running

For more serious faults, we'll make a temporary fix where possible so you're not left without air conditioning, and we can supply temporary units while the repair is completed.

  4. 4

    We fix it properly

We always repair where we can, and we'll only recommend a replacement unit if it works out more economical for you.

Ask us a question →

What are the most common air conditioning faults?

The faults we see most often are refrigerant leaks and low refrigerant (which must be repaired by an F-gas certified engineer), blocked condensate drains causing water leaks, frozen or dirty coils that reduce cooling, faulty circuit boards showing error codes, compressor faults in the outdoor unit and fan motor failures. Sensor and thermostat faults are also common in older systems. We diagnose and repair all major brands.

Can my system be repaired, or does it need replacing?

It depends on how serious the fault is, whether parts are still available, the type of refrigerant, the age of the system and how efficient it is compared with newer models. Older systems that use R22 refrigerant can no longer be legally topped up. We'll give you an honest comparison, and if replacing makes more sense, we'll quote for that alongside the repair so you can decide.

Do I need an F-gas certified engineer for a repair?

Yes, for any work on the refrigerant circuit. By law, recovering, recharging or otherwise handling refrigerant must be done by an F-gas certified engineer working for a certified company, such as one registered with REFCOM. Our engineers are F-gas certified and we are REFCOM registered, so every repair meets UK environmental and safety rules.

Can you come out urgently?

We prioritise urgent call-outs for homes and businesses and aim to get an engineer to you as quickly as possible, especially for offices, server rooms and commercial premises where a breakdown has an immediate impact. Demand peaks in summer, so booking a diagnostic visit as soon as you notice a problem gives you the best chance of a fast fix.

How much does an air conditioning repair cost?

It depends on the fault, the parts needed and whether refrigerant work is involved. The call-out and diagnosis, parts, labour and any F-gas paperwork all make up the final price. We give you a clear estimate before we start, with no hidden charges.

How long does a repair take?

Simple problems like a blocked condensate drain, a filter replacement or a minor electrical fault are usually fixed in a single visit of two to four hours. Faults that need specialist parts, such as circuit boards, compressors or refrigerant components, can take one to five working days depending on parts availability.

How do I choose a trustworthy repair engineer?

Check for F-gas certification for any refrigerant work, REFCOM registration, manufacturer accreditation, current public liability insurance and genuine reviews. A good engineer will give you a written diagnosis and quote before starting any chargeable work. That's exactly how we work at Polar, for homes and businesses across London and the South East.
